Handcrafted in Ireland...

Swallow studiosSwallow Studio Art and Craft Gallery
Swallow Studios Art & Craft Gallery just outside Castleblayney in Co. Monaghan, Ireland, is home to textile artists Liz Christy and Louise Loughman. Inspired by the Impressionist paintings of Claude Monet, Hand-weaver Liz Christy creates a range of scarves and stoles using cotton, wool and boucle wool blend yarns in a host of colours. Some of the yarn is hand-dyed, making each piece unique. Liz is also the creator of the popular “LizzyC Sheep Gift Collection” – brooches, key-rings, magnets, greeting cards. These quirky little collectible sheep, make perfect affordable gifts for visitors to Ireland.

Batik artist Louise Loughman creates beautiful hand-painted silk items. Louise’s range includes scarves, wall-hangings, cards and framed pictures. Liz and Louise are always delighted to welcome visitors to the studio to see them at work. These delightful studios are open 10am-6pm Monday to Friday. Bank Holidays, Saturday & Sunday by pre-arrangement.

Made in Monaghan

BrendaMonaghan craftspeople, Hand-weaver Liz Christy and Potter Brenda Mc Ginn have teamed up together and formed ‘Made in Monaghan’...for tourists who want an Irish Craft studio experience. Tourists can visit both workshops and experience the life of a hand-weaver and potter in rural Ireland. Both ladies want to create memories for the tourist to bring home and cherish. The ladies are keen to raise the profile of Monaghan and establish it as a place in the North East of Ireland for tourists to visit, see something different and purchase unique hand-crafted gifts. Monaghan is only 1hr 30mins from Dublin Airport and the same driving time from Belfast.

At Liz Christy’s studio, you can stop by and she her design and prepare a warp on the warping mill. A weaving demonstration will also be provided. There is a gift shop onsite with hand-crafted products from local and national artisans and craftspeople.

Busy Bee Ceramics is a pottery workshop settled in an old linen village called Mullan Mill Village. At the studio, groups, families and all are welcome to come and watch pottery being made and take part in throwing their own masterpieces on the Potter's Wheel or decorating their own ceramic piece eg. A mug, bowl or plate. All masterpieces are finished and glazed and returned within 2 weeks.  At Brenda's workshop, you can also purchase her pottery.

To book with Brenda email her at brenda@busybeeceramics.ie. The studio is open 10am-5pm Tuesday – Friday. Saturday & Sunday 2pm-6pm.
